Organic Farming Club
The organic farming club was formed to inspire and accelerate the organic farming culture among the students. The Club has organized various activities to promote the culture of organic farming. The organic Farming club was started in the academic year 2015-16 with 23 members from various UG classes under the coordination of Dr. M. T. Thomas and Dr. C. V. David. The objective of the club is to inculcate the habit of cultivating and using organic vegetables among the students and which leads to popularization among the public. - Organic farming survey 2020
The Organic Farming Club in association with the Research Department of commerce (fifth semester B.Com finance Batch 2018-21) have conducted an organic farming survey during 2020 September 27th to October 10. The survey was conducted among the students of St.Thomas college, total 312 students were participated in the survey. This survey was conducted to know the interest of doing organic farming among the students.
- Webinar on Organic Farming
The Club had organized the webinar on Organic Farming on 2021 March 4 to give insight about organic farming among the Students and public. The Deputy Director of Kole Development Authority, Thrissur Mr.T P Baiju was the resource person. Around 50 persons were participated in the webinar
- Planted 20 banana plants on the premises of St. Thomas College Stadium
In relation to the Independence Day celebration, the club was planted 20 banana plants on the premises of St. Thomas College Stadium in collaboration with the Jogger’s Club, Thrissur. An awareness class for local housewives was also organized on that day regarding the importance of organic kitchen gardens. Principal, St. Thomas College has inaugurated the function and the planting was inaugurated by the Bursar of the College.
- Distribution of seeds to develop kitchen gardens of the students
During the academic year 2016-17, the club decided to develop kitchen gardens in their home-yards and the programme was started by distributing seeds of Cow pea, Brinjal, Bitter guard, and seedlings of Cabbage and Cauliflower. A handouts having the cultivation practices of these vegetables in Malayalam was also distributed. The inauguration of the distribution was done by the Principal and 45 members received the planting materials
- Organic winter green distribution
The club has organized an organic winter green distribution programme on 12/12/2019. The main objective of the programme was to provide an awareness among children about the significance of organic farming. The chief guest of the programme was Mr. Christo George, CMD, Hykon India Ltd. Gave a talk on the subject. Rev.Fr. Varghese Kuthur (Manager), Fr. Martin Kolambrath (Vice Principal) and Dr.K.L. Joy (Principal) also addressed the audience. The official inauguration of the programme was by Rev.Fr. Varghese Kuthur by presenting the first sapling to Mr. Christo George. There was an active participation from the part of students and teachers. The programme was winded up by distributing various winter saplings to the participants.
