CHEF’S CORNER – COOKERY CLUB
Chef’s corner Cookery Club of St. Thomas’ College (Autonomous), Thrissur, is an innovative club incorporated specially to inculcate the importance of healthy and balanced diet, among the staff and students fraternity of the college. Club also aims to equip the Santhome family to plan and prepare balanced diet by exploring new ways in the field of cooking. The club endeavour to generate an interest in creative and diverse culinary heritage by uplifting the inner talents of youth. The club organised various activities which encouraged the club members to actively participate and to explore their craving towards cooking.

- Our mission is to bring together students who share a common love for food and those who have a passion towards cooking.
- The club also aims to nurture the healthy cooking habits which help Thomasines to lead a strong and healthy life.
To promote the spirit of national integration Chef’s corner organised Food Fest 2020 under the theme Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat on 21- 01-2020. Traditional Himachal Pradesh dishes were the main attraction of the fest.All stalls were attractively arranged with variety of food items and a special dedicated counter for highlighting Himachal Pradesh food varieties in each counter make the show really diverse from the usual theme of food fest. The fest was inaugurated and judged by Mr. Jijo Joy Executive Sous Chef- Hyatt Regency Thrissur.
- Cookery Club Industrial visit to Rasa Gurukul
Cookery club members visited ‘Rasa Gurukul’Melure (The institute imparts traditional methods of cooking, farming and gardening) on 18-1-2020. Visit helps the members to rediscover the elements of a traditional cooking & lifestyle.Through this IV Chef’s corner, club members experienced the strategy of imbibing organic farming and cooking style in resorts.
- Bake N Flake
Workshop on cake baking and icing organised on 12-12-2019. Workshop covers various aspects of baking and frosting of cakes. The classes were conducted by the experts gave immense insight to members on various important aspects such as usage of raw materials, creating right blend and setting up perfect oven temperature etc.
- Helping Hand to Society
In order to inculcate the relevance of social responsibility among the club members, on 5th of September 2019, Chef’s corner contributed food packets to the needy people of the community in association with ACTS, Thrissur. This empowered the minds of students to extent their helping hands out to the society and to be a role model citizen of the nation.
- Maggie Star Master Chef Contest
Chefs corner in association with Nestle India Pvt Ltd organised a fireless cooking “Maggie Star Master Chef Contest”, on 2nd of September, 2019. 20 teams consisting of three students were asked to prepare a main course and a desert from the given ingredients. Nestle Private Ltd. Activation Consultant Mrs. Saira Paul judged the contest.
- Smart Chef Quiz
On 25th of July, 2019, the club coordinators organized a cookery quiz-“Smart Chef Quiz”. Quiz is associated to food, diet and cooking, were organized by the student coordinators of Chef’s corner. This created an inner urge in each individual to know more about the world & art of cooking. The team which won the quiz programme was awarded.
- Taste Bud Challenge
On 18th of July, 2019, the club conducted a ‘Taste Bud Challenge’. It was conducted basically to identify the ingredients of a specific dish. Pournami P. and John Gejo of Ist Semester B.Com. Banking prepared two delicious dishes and contestants were asked to find the ingredients out. Winners were bestowed with attractive prizes. Student coordinators Pournami and John were specially recognized for their contributions.
- Club Day
On 23rd January 2019,Cookery club celebrated the club day. On that day club opened a sales counter for exhibiting, marketing and selling delicious homemade Kerala snacks, juices, shakes with organic ingredients.
- Noorinte Niravil Noor Vibavagal
Cookery club organised 3 days cookery exhibition as part of centenary mega expo of St. Thomas’ College (Autonomous), Thrissur. On 16-8-2019 we organised ‘Sweet Infusion’ mouth-watering and jaw-dropping sweets attracted the crowd to the counter. On 29-8-2019 club organised ‘ThaniNaadan’and ‘Al Shake’special traditional Kerala dishes and juices were prepared by the cookery club members. On 30-8-2019 Chef’s Corner organised ‘Live Dhamakka’ and ‘Freezing Point’. Cookery club members showcase their cooking skills by preparing live dishes. They also created a festival of delicious ice creams.Waffles, fusion desserts were the main attraction of the day.
Fireless cooking Contest:
Maggi Star/ Master Chef inter departmental Contest Organised on 12th July 2018 for all the students, based on the theme ‘Balanced Diet’.Cookery club organised the contest in association with Nestle India Pvt Ltd. Contestants made 2 dishes, one main course and one dessert) on the spot without using fire. All the ingredients, aprons, caps, equipments were provided by the club.
- Maggie Creative Kitchen Demo Class
Chef’s Corner Cookery Club in association with Nestle India Private Limited, hosted live cooking demo class, on11th July 2018 to create awareness for balance diet. Ms. Meenu Martin of Nestle India demonstrated three recipes of desserts, sweets and a main course. A tasting and feedback session was also organised by the coordinators.
- Arabian Shanghai 2018: Chinese/Arabian Multi cuisine.
Chef’s Corner organised an Arabian Shanghai Food Fest 2018 on 7th February, 2018, in Gandhi Smrithi Square. In Arabian Shanghai Food Fest students prepared and displayed various Arabian and Chinese food varieties. Arabian Shanghai was an exhibition cum sales fest. College Principal Dr. P O Jenson inaugurated the function. Club also arranged an Arabian Shanghai Best Chinese Dish Award. Mrs. Shangsy Raphi Vadakkan was the external judge for the fest. Various Chinese dishes like fried rice, noodles, Chopsuey, Soups, Arabian dishes like Biriyani, Kuzhimanthi, Alpham, Grilled Chicken, Barbeque, Kabbab were displayed by students for the fest. Food fest was organised in two counters named ‘Dragon’s Kitchen and ‘Arabian Magic’. Stalls are arranged and decorated in orange, red and yellow colours which give an Arabian/ Chinese resemblance to the whole scene. ‘Food Hunt’ arranged with the fest was another attraction which made the event more colourful.
- ‘Rasagula’- Food Fest 2017
Chef’s Corner Cookery Club of St. Thomas’ College, (Autonomous), Thrissur, organised ‘Rasagula’ Food Fest 2017, in association with College Union on 14thAugust 2017. The fest was inaugurated by Mrs. Smitha Alukkas, Managing Director, Jose Alukkas. Fest is organised in the form of interdepartmental competition. Lulu Convention Centre, former Chef Sri Shaji Gopalan, Jose Alukkas, Managing Director Mrs. Smitha Alukkas, club coordinator Mejoy Jose were the judges of the competition. There were 22 food counters arranged in the food fest. Western, Eastern, Continental, Chinese food varieties made the food fest attractive and colourful.
- Industrial Visit
Club organised an industrial visit to Canning Industries Cochin Ltd (CAICO)on 4th Nov 2016. Visit provides an opportunity to club members a practical perspective in the preparation of jam, squash, and pickle and it was also an opportunity for the members to actively interact with the, staff and executives of CAICO industries.
- Cooking Demo Class
Related to Christmas, On 14-12-2016 we organised a demo class on cake making. Ms.Preema Jose of St. Mary’s College, Thrisur was the host of the demo session. This provides an opportunity to students and staff of our college to acquire healthy food choices and valuable baking skills. Through this session club succeed in creating a baking passion for our Santhome fraternity.
