The Department of Library & Information Studies has two constituents: (l ) the library which supplements the academic, intellectual, informational, inspirational, spiritual and recreational requirements ofthe academia with its rich resources and services, and (2) the academic department of information studies which offers the Postgraduate Certificate Programme in Information Studies. The programme is delivered entirely online using virtual learning platform and consists of three modules: information literacy, academic writing and communication, and intellectual property and its management.
Services
The library provides open access to its documents and any member can browse through the collections which are arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). Thanks to the abundance of its resources, the library is divided into four sections: General, Science, English and Self Financing (Jubilee) Block. The library gives access to 96000 books and 140 periodicals in print.
The library provides an online catalogue to trace these books, which is accessible from the library page in Resources’ tab of the college website at https://stthomas.ac.in/. Readers can search for the documents which they require from their desktops or mobile gadgets anywhere from the world. The members can also access scholarly literature which is available online through National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N- LIST) ofUGC-1NFLIBNET. The link ofN-LIST is also available in the library page ofthe college Website. Through N-LIST, members can access to 6000+ e-journals and 31,35 000+ ebooks from the following publishers or databases:

The department also provides: Access to International Monetary Fund e-Library, Orientation on library resources, Access to documents supporting research, Training on electronic database search, In-person reference assistance / literature search, Training on academic publishing, Training on electronic reference management, Similarity report of documents and, International Standard Book Number (ISBN) allotment.
Different sections Of the college library houses 40 terminals Of computers for the use Of students and faculty. Besides being well stacked with several books related to each subject, there is also a large collection related to general topics, advanced topics and books for competitive exams. For some departments and subjects, there are book banks for books which are otherwise too expensive to be purchased by students on a personal basis. This facility is for deserving students and the books are made easily accessible for students. Some of the features that augment teaching/learning processes are:
- Library is open before and after the regular working hours.
- Librarian gives an orientation class for every batch to enable students to use better the resources and electronic facilities available for them.
- Koha software is used to ensure better access to books in the library
- New books arriving in the library are displayed on the New Arrivals rack for two weeks for visibility
- Teachers and library staff encourage students to use more of E-journals, e-books and e-resources
- For assignments, seminars and projects teachers insist students to use library and online library resources.
PUBLICATION DIVISION
