Two day National seminar on “Recent Developments and Applications in Statistics and Probability” was organised by the Department of Statistics, St Thomas College (Autonomous) at Kaviprathibha Hall, Academic Block on 14th and 15th February 2024. The seminar was formally inaugurated by Prof. A.M.Mathai Emerutius Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, McGill University, Canada, Rev. Dr.Martin.K.A.Principal, St.Thomas College(Autonomous),Thrissur.
The Key speakers of the seminar were Prof A.M.Mathai, Emerutius Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, McGill University, Canada, Dr M Manoharan Senior Professor(Rtd.) Department of Statistics, University of Calicut , Dr. C. Satheesh Kumar Senior Professor Department of Statistics, University of Kerala, Dr Monish Jose Assistant Professor Kerala Institute of Local Administration, Dr. Princy T, Assistant Professor Department of Statistics Cochin University of Science and Technology.The chief guests watered a plant and started this programwhich is intend to symbolizethat we as a 70 yearold department nurturing research for past 10 years is a growingplant watered by great statisticians as we look forward to grow deeper in the world of statistics.

In the “Dr Hans J. Haubold Endowment Session”Prof. A.M.Mathai delivered first talk in the seminar with the title of “Recent Contribution to Statistical Distribution Theory”,the session was chaired by Prof. V.M.Chacko and the “Dr M.N. Murthy Endowment Session”
was led by Dr M Manoharan on “Application of PH-Distribution for Warranty Determination Under Preventive Maintenance ”, the session was chaired by Prof. A. M Mathai. A paper presentation competition was conducted and there were 12 participants overall which was conducted as a contributory session on afternoon session both days.
On second day thesession began with a talk by Dr Monish Jose on the topic “Extreme Poverty Identification Process: A Multidimensional Approach ”, session chaired by Dr. Rani Sebastian,thereafter in “Dr Stratis Kounias Endowment Session”Dr. Princy T delivered a talk on the topic “Compound Distributionsand their Applications”, were the session was chaired by Dr. A.S Raphy and the“Dr A.M. Mathai Endowment Session”, Dr. C. Satheesh Kumar delivered a talk on the topic “On Certain General Families of Poisson Distribution ”, the session chaired by Dr.V.M Chacko. Thereafter the felicitation and best presentation award, best paper award and prize distribution for various sports and academic excellences was held successfully at Kaviprathibha hall.
