National Statistics Day 2026 | Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics at St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur, celebrated National Statistics Day 2026 with great enthusiasm, featuring an inspiring expert keynote and an engaging quiz competition.
The event began with a warm welcome from Dr. Rani Sebastian, Head of the Department. Rev. Dr. Martin K. A., Principal, presided over the function, which was officially inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Kiran S., Deputy Director of the District Office of Economics & Statistics, Kozhikode.
Felicitations were delivered by Prof. Dr. V. M. Chacko (Senate Member, University ofCalicut) and Mr. James Muttikkal (Secretary, College Alumni Association, and President, Department Alumni Association), both of whom commended the department’s initiatives.
Following the inauguration, Mr. Kiran S.delivered an insightful keynote address. He spoke extensively on the vital significance of official statistics, highlighting their crucial role in evidence-based decision-making and sustainable nation-building.
The celebrations also featured a vibrant quiz competition that witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students. The event was conducted efficiently by the quiz master, Ms. Gauthami P, who was later honoured with a token of appreciation by Dr. Anusree M. R.
The session concluded with the distribution of awards to the quiz winners, where Dr. Rasin R. S. handed out the cash prizes and Dr. Jeena Joseph presented the certificates.
The successful event wrapped up with a formal vote of thanks delivered by the programme coordinator, Dr. Ashlin Mathew P. M., whose coordination ensured the celebration was a memorable tribute to the field of statistics.
