International Conference on Becoming Posthuman: Critical Approaches to Posthumanism, 12-13 Dec 2019
The International Conference on Becoming Posthuman: Critical Approaches to Posthumanism was held in St. Thomas’ College, Thrissur from 12-13 December 2019. The Conference was organized by the Research and Post Graduate Department of English, St. Thomas College, Thrissur in collaboration with the Department of Media Studies. There were participantsfrom different states of India as well as those who worked abroad who presented their research presentations orally. There were also some keynote speakers who gave talkson topics such as Posthumanism and the Turn ofMachines and Exilic Humanism.
It was an honor for the Research and Post Graduate Department of English St. Thomas’ College, Thrissur in its Silver Jubilee Celebrations to organize the International Conference. Many scholars participated in the success of the events. It is with great pride that we can report that this conference had Prof.R.Radhakrishnan, Chancellors’ Professor, University of California, Irvin as the expected chief guest for the programme who unfortunately couldn’t turn up for the same due to some personal emergency on the particular day. The session was therefore led by an eminent speaker Dr.Priya K Nair, Research Guide, MG University who has authored and co-authored several books on Literature Studies and had experiences working abroad.
An exceptional inaugural session which contained a single plenary session, commenced on the first day before the parallel sessions. The speech was presented by Dr.ArunlalMokeri, and was an introduction to Posthumanism and the Turn of Machines. The session was chaired by Dr. Anto Thomas C, HOD, Department of English, St. Thomas’ College, Thrissur.
There were more than 20 paper presentations. The first session of paper presentations namely Literary Theory and Posthumanism was chaired by Dr. SyamSudhakar. The session on Contextualizing Posthumanism was chaired by Dr. C.G.Syamala. The third session on The Technospace had Dr. Anto Thomas C on the chair. The session on Culture, Arts and the National World was chaired by Dr.C.S. Biju and Dr. Nisha Francis Alappatt. The conference presented an interesting model of international interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme was well scheduled and conducted with the exuberant efforts of I MA students of English Literature who worked as various committees to end up as a grand success.
