Eco-Conscious & Healthy Cooking: Empowering Mothers for Sustainable Living

As part of the National Nutrition Fortnight celebrations 2026, an eco-conscious and healthy cooking workshop for mothers was organised by the *Research & PG Department of Zoology, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in collaboration with the **Mathruvedi*, promoting healthier family food habits and sustainable kitchen practices.

*Bringing Health to the Kitchen*
The programme was inaugurated by *Rev. Fr. Twinkle Vazhapilly, Director, Thrissur Archdiocese Mathruvedi, and brought together over 150 mothers from across Thrissur district at the Family Apostolate Centre. The session *Payasam Madhuram added a practical flavour to the focus on nutrition, wellness and mindful cooking.

From Food Choices to a Greener Future**
*V. K. Sreedharan, Vanamitra Award winner and KILA faculty member, delivered the keynote address, highlighting conscious food choices, sustainable cooking and reducing food waste. **Ramani V. K., Inspire India activist and retired engineer, Kerala Water Authority*, led a carbon-neutral cooking class.

A Collective Effort
*Mathruvedi President Ujwala Biju* presided, while *Prof. Vimala John, Head, Department of Zoology, welcomed the gathering and **Secretary Reena Varghese* proposed the vote of thanks, bringing together knowledge, community and practical action towards healthier homes and a more sustainable future.
