Department of Political Science organised a webinar on The Rights to Health and Access to Medicines in India as part of constitution day on 27th November 2020 at 11.00 am to 12.00pm. Dr. Reji K Jospeh (Associate Professor, ISID) was the resource person. He talked about the importance of Article 21 of the Constitution of India and it has been interpreted to include the right to health. Availability of medicines at affordable prices is integral to right to health. Cost of medicines is the single largest component of health care expenses in India. Government of India has adopted various policy measures to ensure access to medicines such as regulation of prices of essential medicines and use of flexibilities provided in the TRIPS Agreement. Our policy makers face tremendous pressure, externally and internally, in enforcing certain policies aimed at fulfilling the obligations of the State in protecting citizen’s right to health. Blessy Paul C. Head, Department of Political Science welcomed the gathering. Emmanual Thomas , Department of Economics, St Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur was the moderator.
