M.A. English Language and Literature – Entrance Examination 2021

SYLLABUS

The entrance examination comprise of two sections: ‘Part A’ that tests the English grammar and comprehension skills of the candidate and ‘Part B’ that focus on basic knowledge in literature that undergraduate students are expected to be familiar with – an overall awareness of English language and literature is what is tested. The question pattern is given below:

Time: 3 hrs.                                                                                                                                    Maximum Marks: 100

Instructions

This question paper comprise of two sections of 50 marks each: ‘Part A’ (English Language Skills) and ‘Part B’ (English Literature). This examination includes objective as well as descriptive questions and there are no negative scores. However, the eligibility to evaluate ‘Part B’ is a score of 70% and above (35 marks and above) in Part A.

Part A (English Language Skills)

I. Rewrite correctly, the following sentences if they are incorrect: (10 marks)
II. Rewrite the following as directed: (Grammar) (20 marks)
III. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below:- (10 marks)
IV. Write a dialogue : (10 marks)

Part B (English Literature)

V. Answer in a word, phrase or a sentence each. (10 marks)
VI. Answer in a paragraph any two of the following: (10 marks)
VII. Essay (any one out of a choice of three) (20 marks)
VIII. Make a Critical appreciation of a poem given (10 marks)
