The College Library houses about a hundred thousand books and is one of the largest and oldest college libraries in Kerala. The Library is divided into four sections: General, Science, English and a separate section for the self financing courses in Jubilee Block. The General section holds general, multidisciplinary, language and literature books in Malayalam, Sanskrit and Hindi along with the books in humanities and social sciences. This section also has a rich collection of reference books. The Science section contains volumes in natural, physical and mathematical sciences. The English section possesses resources in English language and literature. The Self Financing Section of the library has books in the disciplines of Social Work, Electronics, Computer Applications, Business and Media Studies. The library permits research scholars and students of other colleges and universities to use its resources on request.

St. Thomas’ College, Thrissur has very rich and vast library resources. It has nearly one lakh books collected over nearly a century, making it one of the largest libraries in Kerala. The College subscribe to National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST) of INFLIBNET with access to more than 6000 e-journals and 135000 plus e-books. A Media library is a project in progress.

Besides being well stacked with several books related to each subject, there is also a large collection related to general topics, advanced topics and books for competitive exams. For some departments and subjects, there are book banks for books which are otherwise too expensive to be purchased by students on a personal basis. This facility is for deserving students and the books are made easily accessible for students. Some of the features that augment teaching/learning processes are:

  • Library is open before and after the regular working hours.
  • Librarian gives an orientation class for every batch to enable students to use better the resources and electronic facilities available for them.
  • Koha software is used to ensure better access to books in the library
  • New books arriving in the library are displayed on the New Arrivals rack for two weeks for visibility
  • Teachers and library staff encourage students to use more of E-journals, e-books and e-resources
  • For assignments, seminars and projects teachers insist students to use library and online library resources.
